Trex® Weathering Process

All Trex® products ship from the factory in shades of brown. Because of Trex® decking's wood content, color shifts do occur. Eight to twelve weeks of exposure to sunlight and rain are typically required for Trex® decking to achieve its faded color. This process is completely harmless to Trex® decking and does not affect its durability.

Unweathered Weathered
Unweathered Natural Trex Weathered Natural Trex
Natural starts out in varying shades of brown and weathers to driftwood grey hues when exposed to sunlight and water.
Unweathered Winchester Grey Trex Weathered Winchester Grey Trex
Winchester Grey starts out in varying shades of brown and weathers to deep rich grey hues when exposed to sunlight and water.
Unweathered Madeira Trex Weathered Madeira Trex
Madeira is a reddish brown and weathers slightly while maintaining its reddish brown hue.
Unweathered Woodland Brown Trex Weathered Woodland Brown Trex
Woodland Brown is a dark brown and weathers very slightly.
Unweathered Saddle Trex Weathered Saddle Trex
Saddle is a deep tan and weathers slightly while maintaining its rich tones.

It's important to remember that since Trex decking contains wood fiber, there will be some color variation after the weathering process is complete.

Painting & Staining

Although Trex decking never needs to be painted, stained or sealed for protection, be aware that you can paint or stain Trex products to achieve a custom color. Trex prodcuts that have been faded can be painted or stained at any time, even years after it has been installed. Paints and stains that adhere well to wood will work as well or better with Trex products. However, you should use a paint or stain that is designed for walking surfaces.

Thinking Outside the Rectangle

Using Trex railing elements gives you tremendous flexibility in designing your railing system. The easy care nature of Trex decking and its design attributes mean you have more options for adding your own "signature" to a deck. Whether its with a unique herringbone pattern, a splinter-free pool surround, a hot tub enclosure, a custom routed design on the top rail, or a curved railing system, Trex decking gives you more options without the splitting, warping or splintering of wood. With Trex decking, there are many ways for you to "think outside the rectangle" and use Trex decking to its fullest advantage.
